슬래시닷에 재미나고 흥미롭고 심각한 기사가 올라왔다.

어떤 로펌이 “인터넷 웹 브라우저로 HTML 소스코드를 보는 것은 저작권법 위반이다”라고 주장한다더라.

“웹 사이트 최종 사용권 계약을 보면, HTML을 포함한, 우리의 웹 사이트에 올라온 모든 종류의 저작물에 대해 지적 재산권이 있기 때문에, 우린 당신이 HTML 소스코드를 보는 것을 허용한 적이 없고, 당신은 그러면 안된다” 라고 주장을 했다더라.

기사를 일단 읽어보기 바란다.

한국보건사회연구원이 대체 어떻게 연구를 했는지는 모르겠지만 영어교육 수준이 빈부격차를 벌인다니, 좀 이상하지 않은가.

부의 세습 고리가 어째서 영어인지는 모르겠지만, 이 연구결과를 뉴스에 보도된 대로 해석하자면 “영어를 잘하면 돈을 많이 벌고 돈이 많으면 자식에게 영어 교육을 시킨다”로 보인다.

조사를 했더니 다른 과목은 다들 비슷비슷한데 재산 척도와 영어 점수가 유의미한 상관관계가 있다는 얘기다. 근데 왜 영어가 결과냐. 영어를 잘하고도 못사는 사람이 우리나라에 얼마나 많은데, 영어만 잘하면 잘 살 수 있다는 식으로 기사를 써도 되는건지, 아니면 한국보건사회연구원은 그런식으로 결론을 지어도 좋은건지 모르겠다. 영어만 잘하면 돈 벌 것처럼 얘기해서 영어 열풍이 불고 있지만, 사실 영어는 언어일 뿐이고 영어를 사용해서 뭔가 다른걸 해야 돈을 버는 것이다. 더군다나 그것이 영어를 실제 사용할 일이 거의 없는 초등학생 대상으로 조사한 바에야, 초등학생이 영어를 잘하는 이유는 부잣집 자식이기 때문이지, 그 초등학생이 영어를 잘해서 집안이 부잣집이 된건 아니지 않는가. 허허, 영어 못하면 집안 말아먹겠네.

그건 그렇고, 한국보건사회연구원 홈페이지는 왜이리 느린걸까. 접속이 잘 안된다.

키보드를 누르면, 단어를 입력할 수 있다. 그렇다면 어느 언어가 가장 효율적으로 입력할 수 있을까? 이때 말하는 입력 효율성이란, 가장 적은 타수로 입력이 가능한 것을 말한다.

이것을 분석하는 데에는 정성적인 분석과 정량적인 분석 방법이 있을 수 있다. 정성적인 방법은 같은 개념을 입력하는데 필요한 타수를 봐야 할 것이다. 그러나 이 경우 한 단어에 연결된 다른 언어의 단어가 여러개가 있을 수 있고 그 각각이 타수가 다를 수 있으므로 이 경우에는 적절하지 못하다. 따라서 난 정량적인 분석 방법을 택하려고 한다.

정량적인 분석 방법이란 단어의 뜻과 상관 없이 사전에 있는 단어를 빈도수와 타수를 곱해서 평균을 내는 것이다. 많이 쓰는 단어가 짧을수록 입력 효율성이 향상된다는 가장 간단한 가설을 설정해 보았다. 예를 들어, apple이라는 단어가 100단어당 1회 빈도로 사용된다면 apple은 5타를 쳐야 하고 여기에 1/100을 곱해서 평균에 집어넣는 것이다. 한국어의 경우 “사과”라는 단어가 1000단어당 1회 빈도로 사용된다면, 역시 사과는 5타를 쳐야 하므로 5타에 1/1000을 곱해서 사용한다. 따라서 사전에 단어가 1개밖에 없다면 이 경우 영어의 입력 효율성이 더 좋다고 결론지을 수 있다. 입력 효율성에 관한 숫자는 작을수록 좋은 숫자이다.

실제적인 조사 방법론으로서 인터넷을 사용할 수 있을 것이다.

웹에서 제공하는 사전의 표제어 목록을 가져다 글자로부터 타수를 알아낸다. 영어와 일본어는 1타에 1개 글자가 대응되므로 대단히 쉬울 것이고 한글은 2부터 4까지 있으므로 적당한 프로그램이 필요할 것이라고 본다.

사용 빈도수는 검색엔진에서 나타나는 검색 결과 숫자로부터 유추할 수 있다. 단, 이 경우 언어의 사용 인구가 많기 때문에 나타나는 편중을 막기 위하여 검색 결과 숫자의 평균으로 규격화(normalize)한다.

일단 방법론은 이쯤에서 마치고, 이제 프로그램 개발에 들어갈 차례다. python을 이용해볼 생각이다.

필자의 개인 사정상 이 연구의 결론은 언제 작성할 수 있을지 기약이 없음을 시작부터 명확히 밝혀둔다.

영어로 된 블로그를 한번 꾸며볼까 생각해 봤다. 내용은 물론 이 블로그 글들의 번역. 어차피 새로 쓰나 그냥 쓰나 그게 그것이니. 언젠가는 한글로 쓰지 않고 곧장 영어로 작성하는 essay도 쓸 날이 오겠지.

It is controversial that the best teacher is parents. I think that parents can be the better teachers than any other teachers successfully. This is because of the importance of love of parents, role model for growth, and support to spirit.

First of all, in children education, it is well known that love is the most important factor. the love from his parents make him positive and aggressive. For example, comparing a child with no parents to a child with regular parents, one can found that a child with no parents tends to become more negative than a child with parents does. A teacher have to make children grown as well as teach them a textbook. This is why parents can become teachers because a child’s parents give positive effects to the child.

Second, most people agree with the statement that children need the role model to help them grown well. A role model means a person who is so a good example for a child to follow. If a child does not have an appropriate role model, he will not be able to learn role and rule of the society. That might mean some kind of failure in education. In my opinion, a teacher as job could be a role model, but he may not be as good as parents. It is good for children that a role model is provided by the parents who best know the children.

At last, supporting a child’s spirit cannot be replaced with any other than parents. The society has many hazards harmful for a child’s weak spirit. However, if he is cheered up by the parents, he will be able to make himself much better than he or other imagine. Also, he should be able to avoid hazardous things in the society. A teacher in school should not support a child.

In conclusion, I argue that parents is the good teachers for the children because of above reasons.

People attend college or university for many different reasons (for example, new experiences, career preparation, increased knowledge). Why do you think people attend college or university? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Generally
speaking, people think that it is better that he attend college or
university. I agree with their thought because of his satisfaction
for knowledge, more opportunity for job, and many relationships with
new friends. I explain why I guess that in this essay.

First
of all, attending college means that he can take a chance to learn
higher level of his major or subject. For example, since I like to
study physics, my major is physics. I, moreover, attend graduate
school of physics and research theory of physics. Therefore, it is
necessary for one who wants to increase knowledge to attend
college.

Second, people may go to university in order that the
company in which he hope to work demands some professional skill.
Then, he should learn the needed skill and go to the university. This
is a reason of attending university.

Third,
much more friends could be made at university or college. In high school, relationship with other persons is so localized that one may have a limited number of friends.


However, since students of
university or college are not only natives but foreigners, they can make so many people friends.

In my opinion, I conclude that people want to attend college or university because of the reasons that I argue.
