내 글에 스팸이 달렸다. 내용을 살펴보자.

모태 한국인이라면 아무도 이해할 수 없는 문장을 써 놨다.

저 스팸이 가리키고 있는 주소는 다음과 같다.

뭔가 익숙하다. 기아? 쏘울?

들어가보면 기아차 해외 홈페이지가 나온다.

기아 현지법인에서 차가 하도 안팔리다보니 무리수를 둔 모양인데, 한국이 원산지인 차를 한국에다가 한국어 스팸을 달아버리면 안되지 싶다.

의사가 쓴 책이다. 색맹인 사람들이 많이 사는 섬에 가서 여러가지를 관찰하고 느낀 것을 썼다. 그리고 전신이 마비되는 병이 많이 나타나는 섬에 가서 보고 느낀 것을 썼다. 의사가 쓴 생물학 책이지만 굉장히 인간적이고 문학적인 책이다.

같은 내용을 보도한 2개의 기사가 있다. 요점은 영국의 어떤 아줌마가 게임기를 하기 위해서 체중을 감량한 소식이다. 그런데, 파이낸셜뉴스는 142kg을 87kg으로 줄였다고 보도하고 있고, 중앙일보는 314kg을 87kg으로 줄였다고 보도하고 있다.

파이낸셜 뉴스는 “데일리 메일”을 인용하고 있고, 중앙일보는 “더 선”을 인용하고 있다.

데일리 메일에서 인용된 기사의 주소는 다음과 같다.

둘 다 공히 21st 61lb라는 체중을 이야기하고 있다. 따라서 위에 기사를 작성한 기자중 한명은 틀렸다.

1파운드는 0.453킬로그램이다. 따라서 61파운드는 27.6킬로그램이다.

st는 뭔가? 이것은 스톤이라는 단위인데, 6.35킬로그램이다. 따라서 22스톤은 139.7kg이다.

합치면 대략 167킬로그램이다.

둘 다 틀렸는데, 그나마 파이낸셜 뉴스가 그럭저럭 맞았다.

오답 원인을 분석하자면 파이낸셜 뉴스는 스톤과 파운드 단위 둘 다 합쳐야 하는데 파운드 부분을 빼고 스톤만 계산하였다. 그럼 140kg이 된다. 중앙일보는 st라는 단위를 slug라는 단위로 알았나보다. slug는 1slug = 14.6kg인 질량 단위인데, 그럼 22스톤이 대략 320kg정도에 해당한다.
