어린 아이가 커가는 성장 모험물, 뭐 그런 정도로 요약할 수 있으려나. 마지막엔 완전 SF물이 되어서 우주까지 진출하는 등, 갈데까지 간 스토리를 보여주고 있지만 그렇다고 탄탄한 스토리가 아닌건 아니다.
어릴때 보았을 때는 잘 이해하지 못했던 복선과 감정 구도를 이제는 느끼면서 볼 수 있게 되었다. 수년쯤 후에 다시 한번 더 감상하고 싶은 작품이다. 16살 소년, 소녀 – 그럼 나보다 딱 10살 어리다. 10년 전의 내 모습도 그랬던 것 같다.
이 작품의 감동은 꽤 오래갈 것 같다. 순수함을 복구시켜주는, 그런 느낌이랄까.
“모험”이란 어딘가 멀리 있는것이 아니라, 지금 살고 있는 이 순간이 바로 내가 찾던 그 모험이다. 있을법하지 않은 일을 상상하고 그런 모험을 동경하는 것 보다, 지금 이 순간이 더 힘들고 더 재미있다.
애니메이션은, 영화는, 모든 “이야기”는 끝이 난다. 그 끝을 보고 나면 결국은 허무한 감정이 남게 된다. 실제로 사는건 그렇지 않으니까. 지금 힘든 것들을 어떻게든 버텨 내고, 끝나지 않을 것 같은 이야기를 결론짓고, 죽을때까지 살아있어야 한다. 겁나서 하지 못한 일도, 힘들어서 포기한 일도 많다. (물론, 귀찮아서 안한 것도…)
더 많은 생각을 하고, 더 많은 세상을 알아가고 싶다. 세상은 내가 알기엔 너무 넓고 복잡하다. 그리고, 그러니까 더 재미있는 것 같다. 모험은 이미 시작된지 26년째다.
