클레이모어는 인간을 먹고 사는 요마를 해치우는 전사집단의 이름이다. 그 실체는 인간과 요마를 섞은 반인반마. 따라서 능력이 엄청나다. 하지만 폭주해서 각성자가 되면 요마가 되어서 인간을 먹게 된다. 그리고 각성자는 클레이모어보다 쎄다.
인간은 요마를 해치워주는 클레이모어에게 기분나쁜 시선을 보낸다. 그것은 그들이 장사를 하고 있기 때문. 돈을 받고 요마를 해치워 줄 뿐, 돈을 주지 않으면 그 뒤로는 마을이 망해버려도 도와주지 않는다. 뭐, 후불제 혜택을 준다는 점에서 어느정도는 서비스 정신이 있긴 하지만.
막판에는 주인공인 클레어가 동료들의 도움으로 각성 상태에서 인간으로 되돌아 오게 된다. 이 무슨 뜨거운 동료애의 표현…
개인적으로 가장 맘에 들었던 캐릭터는 테레사이다. 난 이상하게 주인공이 무지막지하게 강해서 누가 어떻게 덤비더라도 가볍게 이겨내는 설정이 맘에 들더라.
화려한 액션과 전투장면이 볼거리이긴 한데, 애들이 “눈에 보이지 않는” 속도로 검을 휘두른다는 설정을 하고 있어서 작화를 대충해버리는 비극이 일어났다. 검을 휘두르는데 눈에 보이지 않는 속도로 휘두르기 때문에 불꽃만 조금 그려주고 같은 동작을 반복하는, 일종의 날림 작화랄까. 2:1전투나 4:1전투 장면에서도 표현의 한계인지 콘티의 한계인지 모르겠으나 결국은 한번의 공격은 한명만 한다. 즉, 한쪽에서 검이 날아오면 그 검을 막기만 하면 된다. 동시에 두군데를 찌르거나 하는게 없다. 그리고 괴물은 괴물답게 몸통이 이상하게 늘어나고 왠지 굉장히 크다. 하지만 주인공에게 어떻게든 진다.
마지막쯤에 가서는, 결국 심연의 강자들이라 부르는, 초창기 각성자들 셋이 등장하는데 그중 서쪽의 리플이라는 애는 재미 없다고 하면서 그냥 가버리고 북쪽의 이슬레이는 싸우지도 않고 있다가 자기 마누라인 프리실라가 당하니까 데리고 그냥 가버린다. 대놓고 2기 등장을 예고하는…
